It sits there ever alert. The Socialist Rebublic of Viet Nam has seen its troubles. Histories of conflict and struggle flow through its inhabitants. From the thousand years of Chinese rule and the French invasion and protectorate of 1883, to the American War in 1965. The people are tenatious and provicially proud. Although a communist country by name, its bizaare unison with capitalism thrives and endures. Ethnically Vietnamese, with 2% Chinese and 15% Kmer population, its religion is mainly Tam Giao(Taoism, Bhuddhism and Confucianism), although Caltholics make up around ten percent of the rest. Its diversity of climate from its capital Hanoi to southern Ho Chi Min City, is mirrored through its geographical landscape. The vast fertile plains of the Mekong delta and Red River delta collide with the mountainous heavens which make up around three quarters of the land. Although still a poor country, its free trade attitude gives an air of confidence to its residents, while they work the fields and bless the Buddha. |
