Imagine a city in the sky, palaces, jewels, ethereal light and mystique. A place where eastern culture is entwined with western ideals, a city of greatness and a God built city. These words cannot be over used when describing such an important city as Venezia. Children play in 'campi' while boats small and smaller, chink and duck their way through the maze of canals that give Venezia its life. Through its illusrious history spanning 17 centuries, the Venitian empire may have changed but old Venice really hasn't. Its importance as an empire reached its peak in 16th century, when silks, gold and eastern spices changed hands frequently. Birth place of Titian, Marco polo and Tiepolo, Venezia still charms here audiences, although they tend to be more of the snap happy variety these days. I have been fortunate enough to live, work and study in the city, and through these eyes Venezia is a very different place than the tourist guides allude. |
