<font face="Georgia, Times New Roman, Times, serif" color="darkpink" size="+3"><b>O</b></font><font color=olive face="Georgia, Times New Roman, Times, serif" size="+1">ne morning, eager to explore, I took a bus from Opatija to Pula. The ride up the coastline was spectacular and I couldn't wait to see what magic the town of Pula would provide.
<font face="Georgia, Times New Roman, Times, serif" color="darkpink" size="+3"><b>W</b></font><font color=olive face="Georgia, Times New Roman, Times, serif" size="+1">hen I arrived at the station, however, I feared I had made a mistake. There was no magic, no beauty... neither buildings ancient and old and nor culture exciting and new. Here was only a beaten up bus station surrounded by neglected apartment buildings. Old men sat at an outdoor bar sipping heaven only knows what, and a police officer on a beer break drank his brew whilst eyeing me -- this strange foreigner -- up and down. It was time to split.
<font face="Georgia, Times New Roman, Times, serif" color="darkpink" size="+3"><b>A</b></font><font color=olive face="Georgia, Times New Roman, Times, serif" size="+1">s I entered the town proper, the quality of architecture increased and while still not convinced there was much here for me to see, I was at least no longer afraid.
<font face="Georgia, Times New Roman, Times, serif" color="darkpink" size="+3"><b>A</b></font><font color=olive face="Georgia, Times New Roman, Times, serif" size="+1">h -- but a very short walk later, my eyes were in for a real treat! Pula opens up quickly. Ancient temples, an amphitheater, ruins from civilisations past are at every corner. Yet the main promenade along the ocean is as modern and thriving as anyone could ask for.
