<center>’Twas the night before Christmas
<center>and all through Pompeii
<center>not a rest’rant was open
<center>by night or by day.

<center>The locals were were eating
<center>their dinner at home,
<center>with hopes that the tourists
<center>would all stay in Rome!

<center>And I with 2 girlfriends
<center>who barely had met
<center>settled in for the Christmas
<center>we’d never forget.

<center>The Hostels were closed and
<center>hotels were expensive
<center>with our student budget
<center>the mood was quite pensive.

<center>When hunger prevailed and no
<center>food could be found,
<center>we sat on a park bench and
<center>stared at the ground.

<center>Then Debbie said, "Well guys
<center>the best that I can
<center>is offer to open
<center>my one can of spam."

<center>I looked at Mary with
<center>shock on my face
<center>who would pack spam
<center>in the very first place??????

<center>Who would pack "dog food"
<center>(my prejudice shows)
<center>when travelling to Italy?
<center>Well nobody knows!!!

<center>We bit on our lips
<center>at the thought of the spam
<center>for fear one would say
<center>we want Green Eggs and Ham.

<center>I did not pack a can of spam
<center>I did not pack green eggs and ham
<center>I did not put it in a trunk
<center>I would not, could not, eat such junk.

<center>It has been said, a snob I am
<center>but I did not want any spam!!

<center>The hunger pangs grew quite immense,
<center>the day wore on, our mood was tense.
<center>Sweet Pompeii, city of one’s dreams
<center>became a nightmare, so it seems.

<center>And so the story now dear friend
<center>does not come to a happy end.
<center>With hunger like a burning flame
<center>We each found someone else to blame.

<center>And on that fateful Christmas Day
<center>with nothing left to do or say
<center>we sat in silence in the cold
<center>and ate our dinner, brave and bold.

<center>My own donation to the meal:
<center>a Sacher Torte within a seal.
<center>We lived to face another day
<center>Then quickly exited Pompeii!!!!!
