Canadian exhibit, WFC, Antalya |
I was in serious space conservation mode for this trip! On October 10, I caught a flight to Antalya, Turkey, and on October 11, I finally got there! I was in Turkey for the World Forestry Congress.
The World Forestry Congress had its interesting parts. It *was* a great networking opportunity - read "a great chance to party with forestry friends from around the world"! I was working in the Canadian booth, giving away brochures, pins and the like. I also had a couple of specific tasks (a presentation and a meeting) related to my work with an international initiative on criteria and indicators.
Turkey itself was very interesting, although I didn't see too much more than Antalya. I also can't say it's a place where I'd want to travel alone - I'd want to be with a companion of either sex, preferably male. People were very friendly, however, and the food was great!
Turkey was very interesting. The weather was fabulous for about the first week and then it cooled off and rained a bit. Mostly it rained in the evening, but then it really rained quite hard and we had some interesting sound and light shows (thunder and lightning)! This was particularly interesting on the evening they bussed everybody out to Aspendos theatre for a cultural show - quite a unique setting for a show, if a bit cool and damp!
