Me at the BC legislature

"Home Province"

British Columbia is my "home province" - I was born in Kamloops, BC, and grew up in the nearby town of Chase. I attended Cariboo College in Kamloops, then headed to Vancouver and the University of British Columbia. After 3 years at UBC, I spent 1 year at the University of New Brunswick, in Fredericton. I then returned to Vancouver and graduated in 1985 with a Bachelor of Science in Forestry. I spent about 2 years living and working in Victoria, 1 year in Prince George, and then moved to Ottawa, Ontario, in 1988.

Thompson-Okanagan

I grew up in and my own immediate family live in the Southern Interior of BC (Thompson-Okanagan and Shuswap country). Beautiful countryside.

I later lived in Victoria... I met my husband in Victoria... we got married in Victoria... and we get to return to Victoria quite frequently, as my mother-in-law currently lives there. It's a lovely little city.

I also visit Vancouver fairly regularly and I used to live there - it's on our route home to visit family in Victoria and the Southern Interior of BC. I actually used to live at UBC, while attending University. It's an exciting and enjoyable city.

I also lived in Prince George for a time. I spent about a year there - I arrived from Victoria and then left for Ottawa. That was several years ago - 1988, to be exact!

2007 Update: I saw the Golden Spruce on Haida Gwaii (Queen Charlotte Islands) in 1987, on my first trip there. I was lucky to have seen it when I did. By the time I next visited, a disgruntled forestry worker (Grant Hadwin) had been to see the Golden Spruce and cut it down. I recently read the book "The Golden Spruce", by John Vaillant (ISBN 978-0-677-97645-8). I found it an enjoyable biography of the tree, the Queen Charlotte Islands, to some degree, as well as the guy who cut down the tree. I had been thinking it was less "golden" than it is; however, looking again at my photo, it is surprisingly golden and does rather stand out from the surrounding forest. Pity it's gone.

Cheers.
