Groningen, aka 'Paris of the North' is the city where I spent most of my life. It is sort of far away from everything. About 10% of the population are students. The main square, Grote Markt, is surrounded by bars. Some famous ones are the Drie Gezusters, de Grote Griet en de Blauwe Engel. Not the nicest bars, very big and unpersonal. A side street of the Markt is de Poelestraat, where you can find many nice eetcafes (restaurants) and bars. Many happy hours and no official closing hours will guarantee a great night out! Of course Groningen is not just bars. It's got a very interesting museum of modern art (opposite the station), good shopping, several parks, canal boat tours and the possibility to see a lot of the country side by hopping on a bus in Groningen. |
