Restaurant Name: The Literaturnoye Cafe
This restaurant is centrally located and is really a wonderful spot for lunch or dinner. First of all, they maintain a high level of class, including a piano and string group playing during the day while you are dining. In a city where McDonalds and cheap eateries are popping up left and right, this place retains a high level of service and good food at pleasantly low prices.
Founded in 1835, the halls of this restaurant have been visited by some of the greats of Russian literature - Pushkin, Chernyshevsky, and Dostoevsky, among them. The atmosphere is light enough during the afternoon to allow the occasional tourist to feel at home in jeans. I doubt the same outfit would be turned away at dinner, but the history and decoration should make you feel like putting on some nicer clothes.
You can order five courses and still come in under $20 per person.
Favorite Dish: Meat 'St. Petersburg style' - a very tasty variation of the beef steak. Ice cream with mixed fruit for dessert.
