At the end of our trip to the Westcoast we could not get a direct flight back to Amsterdam so we made a one-day-stopover in Memphis. This was our chance to see Graceland!! We booked a tour to Elvis' home and we were not disappointed. Upon arrival you get your ticket and a taperecorder that provides you with information on The King and his mansion. Most impressive is the building where all his gold records and costumes are displayed. There is also the meditation garden where Elvis and his family are buried. The plane named after his daughter Lisa Marie can also be visited. It is very interesting but sad at the same time, to see how Elvis lived with all the beautiful things he surrounded himself with but in the end it did not matter. If you happen to be in Memphis, Elvis fan or not, Graceland really is a must! As we only stayed in Memphis for one day we didn't get to see much of the city. Due to high temperatures and humidity the city looked deserted anyway, too hot for sensible people to go outdoors... |
