Feeling at home

After almost 4 years I have to say that I feel very much at home in Haarlem. The town has a beautiful old centre, great shops, good restaurants and beautiful surroundings. It is easy to get around town on your bike and you're close to the beach and dunes. In the town centre there are plenty of monumental buildings that will easily impress you. For example the Bavo Church on the Market Square. (Grote Markt).

Haarlem is also famous for it's "hofjes". These are courtyard hidden away from the main street. At the time these hofjes were built by rich people in the community to house the poor and needy. You could opt for a walking tour along the hofjes of Haarlem to see these beautiful and tranquil places.

It does not snow in Holland very often and if it does, the snow usually turns into a filthy grey mass within minutes... But sometimes the snow stays a bit longer and than there is no other thing to do but capture it on film.

Thanks for the information on the Grand Hotel Frans. I think my wife & I will try it. Do you know the Subway stop and train from Amsterdam?
