This is the Amsterdam Gate, in... Amsterdamse Poort Review

This is the Amsterdam Gate, in Haarlem stands the Amsterdam Tower and in Amsterdam stands the Haarlem Gate. These gates used to be part of the citywalls. Unfortunately there is nothing left of the walls and other gates of Haarlem like the 'Eendjespoort', this gate was destructed in the beginning of 1900. At the other side of the Amsterdam Gate is the Amsterdam street. This is a large shopping street, with small bakeryshops, fruitshops, greeneries, barbers etcetera. This is a 'hofje'. It is a beautiful garden with small pretty houses of elderly around it. The houses really are orginal and some houses you are able to watch from the inside two. There are about four hofjes in Haarlem.

At the Flowerparade is always lots of live music and things to eat or drink. Also there are markets open in the streets near the parade. It is always busy in Haarlem on this day.

The trailers with the flowerstatues are made of flowers that came from Lisse and Aalsmeer. The flowers that are used are hyacinths, narcisses and tulips. The parade goes from Noordwijk through Sassenheim, Lisse and Bennebroek to Haarlem and stays there for a day.

Go see the flowerparade! It is sometimes held in august, but most of the time the flowerparade is at the end of april.

Dunewoods: Waterleiding Duinen (Near Lisse/Bennebroek/Bloemendaal), Panneland (near Vogelenzang), Koningshof (From Haarlem take the Zijlway in the direction of Overveen).

The difference between cows: reddish cows are cows that are used for flesh. Black & White cows are used for milk and cheese. The center of Haarlem has two fine cheese stores (one in the Gierstreet and one in the Grote Houtstreet) where you can taste different kinds of cheese.
Birds like the 'Kievit', 'Sparrow', 'Blue Riger', 'Fuut', 'Kluut' , 'Silver Riger' and the 'Swan' are animals you will often get to see in the farmersarea.

In the farmersarea are lots of nice little villages to visit. You can visit Haarlemmerliede, Penningsveer and Spaarndam. Spaarndam is the prettiest and must lively village of the three. It has bridges and is surrounded by water. There is a little yacht harbour here and also big sailingships move around here. The village has old houses and old watersystems. It's worth going here!
