"DROP IN, BE MY GUEST!" Redule's Profile

…but if you want to make yourself at home, follow the “tree-days principle” and stay here for a while (“a guest and a fish stink in three days”). Don’t worry about Lithuanian hospitality! As a roommate you’ll be so helpful in washing dishes and cleaning carpets…ups… “making pictures” - I wanted to say.
If you are still here, pour a droplet of brandy into your coffee because I am going to start a long travel related chat here. I know we are expected to be educated and bright people, so let’s start with THE THEORY OF TRAVELLING.

I am not going to invent a bicycle, so I’ll refer to the Maslow’s theory. Good uncle... Do you remember his hierarchical pyramid of needs? His theory says that the human behaviour is determined by satisfaction of needs. In other words: More you have, more you want. As soon as you satisfy simple needs, then the new, more complicated and higher needs appear. Better these needs are satisfied, better behaviour from the individual you can expect! Here we go with travelling:

PHYSIOLOGICAL: the first bottom level. Let’s imagine you are a poor traveller who was thrown out to an unknown land. What do you think you must do? Yes! You must find food and water in order to survive. Also, the tourist should put his food and himself into a safe place. A hotel or more decent place is needed! Do not forget that everything must be paid. So, the best security warrant is money and a good source of money.

SAFETY: without successful implementation of this step, the tourist may remind a little cat from the story of J. Biliunas: “It was a small white kitty (turisto in this case). It’s poor thin body shivered with cold and fear; its fur was numbed and dishevelled. I found it outside, squatting by the fence, curled up and unhappy. When it saw me, it mewed with such pitiful voice and looked at me with eyes that shined with fear and hope. It was still young, but so dried up! Maybe people took it away from mom, maybe they wanted to put it into the bag, to bring it to the river and throw it to the water, but later they simply brought it outside, threw it by the fence that it couldn’t find home and died of hunger. There were no room for it at people any more, maybe it was not the first day how it sat here hungry and frozen…
But it’s not my affair! Nobody wants it, right?
<……………………...............…………….........…..>
It was the only shot in my life…”

To avoid such heart-breaking situations, use various safeguards: travel insurance, addresses by embassies, maps and legal travel agencies.

BELONGINGNESS&LOVE: to feel happy, the traveller needs to affiliate with others, to be accepted. To achieve this, you should accommodate yourself to natives : drink water directly from the Gang, climb into their mountains, see a lion in liberty, etc. Also you must buy all needless stuff that is offered in the local markets. This stuff has a special name “souvenir” created specially to justify its existence.
Also, learn some words in the native language, if you see a beautiful lady or handsome man, you’ll be able to attract their attention with your wittiness. Use such targeting expressions: “Where is the restaurant? Can you show me it? I am used to go to the better ones. I like you. My castle, my business, fields of grapes, stable, my lonely lonely life…”

ESTEEM: if you were lucky in the previous stage (behaved well, properly and did not use to have lunch in McDonalds), you might gain approval and recognition. You can become respected as well as the country where you came from. Now all doors are open to you. But firstly you must enhance your self-esteem: you are worth of orchestra and parade in the airport!

NEED TO KNOW&UNDERSTAND: a new desire to know, understand and explore has appeared. Suddenly and unexpectedly. The traveller becomes interested in history, traditions, economics, politics… It is easy to recognise you in the street: wide asking eyes, open mouth.

AESTHETIC: have you reached this stage? Don’t wonder, in scientific terminology you’ll are called “Conscious Traveller”, because you found the beauty in the foreign country. This stage is accompanied by abundant photographing.

SELF-ACTUALIZATION: naturally, symptoms of this stage appear to mature travellers, experienced wolfs. If you are here, you become wiser and automatically know what to do in a wide variety of situations: how to escape, how to get, how to avoid, what to do, what to see and etc. and etc. You are able to shape your destiny… it means, if you are not able to help yourself, nobody will help you!

TRANSCENDANCE: it’s the peak. The Great Teacher! Your aim is to help others find self-fulfilment and realise their potential. You may want to create a travel agency or join Virtual Tourist and enjoy your prominent position. Do you feel how HIGH YOU are, dear VT MEMBER?

Conclusion: Travelling is a broad complex of experiences, fun & pleasure, physical and intellectual work.

Oh, I’ve forgot about the object of travelling!
Don’t run away, our conversation is going on!

We don’t need any theories or references here. It is obvious that the object of travelling is the WORLD !

What is this: the world? Let’s look up to the dictionary. Ha, really broad definition: the earth, the universe, the earth with its inhabitants, the inhabitants of the earth, the human race, humankind considered as social beings, human society, people as a whole, a sphere of human activity or interest, etc. I feel you don’t want to read all my arguments, so I’ll tell what is the most important for me. The most important is the HUMAN, the master of the WORLD (for the better or worse).

Everything what is good and wonderful in this world has been created by people: ancient and new civilisations, miracles of the world, beauty of the cities, music, art, inventions.... Maybe you’ll ask me what about nature... Well, the God has the same appearance as humans;)

That’s all for today. Sorry for being demagogic, but if you want to talk about something else, you can simply e-mail me. I’ll try to reply, I promise…

Cheers!

According to the Maslow theory, people must be satisfied with the lower level to continue to the gigher level, so how do you explain the need for some one who jumpe directly to the higher state ? At least in the your " travel theory " here ?
