I first visited Prague in November 1996, a two-week stay with my Czech friend, Jakub. I had a feeling that I was going to love the place, since my favorite writer, Franz Kafka, lived and worked there, and he had written a great deal about the mysteriousness of the city. But I didn't realize how much I was going to love it. The moment I arrived, I felt like I was home. Have you ever discovered a place where the atmosphere and the mood perfectly matches the interior of your soul? That is what Prague did to me. It surpassed all my expectations...so I moved there in 1997.
I had planned to live there forever, but an unexpected illness sent me back to the States. I have since visited Prague three times, the last time in April 2000.
What do I like about it so much? Well, Prague makes you draw in your breath with its special brand of slightly sad beauty. Get lost in its winding streets, drink heartily of its cheap, excellent beer, warm yourself with a plate of hot goulash and dumplings. Make friends with her people, who are friendly and fun. Above all, admire her architecture and soak in the atmosphere that is like no other place on earth.<

Thank you for sharing a place you obviously love. | rakeshk Tue Feb 17, 2004 15:16 UTC I like your pages on Prague. I was there last September and loved but didn't quite know how to put in words till I read your lines that say "slightly sad beauty". That sums it up real good. |
