| Beautiful & historical town of Zhouzhuang |
To the West of Shanghai city, there are several beautiful and laid-back water towns with historical buildings dated back hundreds of years. The town of Zhouzhuang is perhaps and most well-known of all these towns.
Visiting Zhouzhuang is like going back in time, with its beautiful waterways, rustic buildings, boats, people etc. However, it has become commercialised due to tourism and some people felt that it is a tourist trap.
How to truely appreciate this water town of Zhouzhuang? Well, the answer lies in visiting it during the "off the beaten hours", i.e. early in the morning, at night where the tourists either have not arrived or are gone.
I will be posting such experiences of my stay at Zhouzhuang in September 2004 at this webpage soon, so do keep a lookout for the updates ..... |
