"Canberra - Capital of Australia" Australian Capital Territory by victorwkf

Australian Capital Territory Travel Guide: 942 reviews and 2,107 photos

I visited Canberra a total of 3 times so far, first during a backpacking trip in June-July 1996. In Feb-Mar 2002, I visited this beautiful garden city again, this time on a 3 weeks working attachment. The third visit was another 2 weeks working attachment in Oct 2008.

I will share with you some of my wonderful moments during my 1996, 2002 and 2008 trips.

Hope you would find the information useful, and perhaps you can rate them or give your comments. Thanks.

Lake Burley Griffins is a beautiful man-made lake at the heart of Canberra city, dividing the city into two portions. A visit to Canberra will not be complete without visiting this lake and strolling along the parks along its banks. You will also see black swans (native to Australia) in this lake.

The countryside of the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) outside Canberra is very beautiful, with beautiful green mountains, flora & fauna etc. You can get to the countryside easily by driving or buses.

Pros and Cons
  • Pros:Beautiful city design, lots of greenery and flowers
  • Cons:Quiet at night, shops close early
  • In a nutshell:Good for those who prefer a quiet place to stay

Turns out the 'Cauldron' is actually called the Carillion, located on Aspen Island in Kings Park.
