Pinnacle @ Duxton (Part 2)

Here are more photos of my trip to the Pinnacle @ Duxton in June 2010. Detailed information are at the website below, and panoramic photos taken by me at the 50th storey skybridge are at my VT main homepage.

This is one of the best location to capture panoramic views of Singapore city, harbour as well as surrounding island all the way to Batam island in Indonesia.

View of Singapore from Pinnacle @ Duxton

Pinnacle @ Duxton (Part 1)

The Pinnacle @ Duxton is the tallest public housing residential flats in Singapore at 50 storey high. It was completed in 2010, and consists of several huge blocks of flats located at Cantonment Road near to the famous Chinatown area.

There are two skybridges here, one at the 50th storey and another at the 26th storey. Both skybridges are opened to visitors at a $5 fees and offer great views of the city and surrounding areas. More information is at the website below, and more photos are at part 2 of this VT tip as well as at my main VT homepage.

The famous Mustafa shopping area at Serangoon - Singapore

The famous Mustafa shopping area at Serangoon

Serangoon area

Serangoon is a relatively big and historical area located in the central eastern part of Singapore island, stretching from the city fringe area in the south (near to the city hall and Bugis areas) all the way north to the Upper Serangoon Road area near to Sengkang and Hougang.

There are many places of attraction (e.g. Little India), shopping (e.g. Mustafa), eateries and interesting sights (e.g. various temples) along Serangoon Road all the way north to Upper Serangoon Road. One of the best season to visit Little India is before the Deepavali (new year day of Hindus), where Little India is full of colour, activities and the streets are lighted up at night.

For information and photographs of Serangoon, please visit my VT Serangoon page. As I am very busy nowadays, the updates and photographs of my VT Serangoon page will be done periodically and therefore you can drop by every now and then.

Panoramic Views of Singapore City (Part 1)

If you like to see good panoramic views of Singapore city and take photographs of them, one very convenient and free-of-charge place you can do it is take a lift up to the top floor (30th floor) of the HDB housing residential flats at Jellicoe Road. This is how you can do it:

- Take the MRT subway train to Lavender MRT Station (at the east-west line).
- When you exit the Lavender MRT Station, you will see three blocks of tall HDB housing residential flats (blocks 813, 815 and 816) just next to the sub-way station along Jellicoe Road.
- Take the lift up to the top floor (30th floor) of blocks 813 and 816).
- You will have good panoramic views of Singapore along the corridor areas, and it is very nice and windy up here.

Attached are photos taken by me at this place, more photos are at part 2 of this tip as well as the travelogue section of this VT page.

A capsule of the Singapore Flyer - Singapore

A capsule of the Singapore Flyer

Singapore Flyer (Part 2)

In case you want to know how the capsules of the Singapore Flyers look like, here are some photographs of both the interior and exterior. Each capsule can house about 20 over people but usually about 10 over people are inside to give more space to viewing the sceneries and sitting on the benches.

Overall, the Singapore Flyer is a new attraction worth visiting to have great views of the Singapore skyline. More photographs are at the travelogue section of this VT page.

The Singapore Flyer - Singapore

The Singapore Flyer

Singapore Flyer (Part 1)

The Singapore Flyer (officially opened in early 2008) is the equivalent of the London Eye but higher. This giant ferris wheel is located at the Marina Bay area of Singapore with great views of the Singapore skyline and you can see the islands of Indonesia on a clear day.

The ride takes about 30 minutes and the capsules are air-conditioned with benches in case you are tired. The ride is about $30 singapore dollars and more information is in the official website below. After the ride, you can go shopping at the nearby Suntec City shopping centre, Marina Square shopping centre or visit the Esplanade, Singapore River, Padang etc. A lot of attractions are near the Singapore Flyer so it is very convenient.

Please go to part 2 of this tip.

The Istana, Singapore - Singapore

The Istana, Singapore

The Istana

The Istana is the office of the President of Singapore and a symbol of the country which I live in. The President receives and entertains state guests at the Istana, and the entire compound occupies over 100 acres located along the famous Orchard Road (main entrance is just next to Plaza Singapura shopping centre, which you can reach via MRT sub-way Dhoby Ghaut station). The Istana is not opening to the public except for a few days of public holidays of Singapore (see website below). It is free to enter for Singapore citizens and permenant residents, while other nationalities need to pay a small entrance fee. If you are visiting Singapore and the Istana happens to open to the public, I strongly advise you to visit because this is one of the attractions which is only open a few days every year and you should really not miss it. More information and photos are at my VT Istana Negara page.

Duxton Hill & Tanjong Pagar Area, Singapore - Singapore

Duxton Hill & Tanjong Pagar Area, Singapore

Duxton Hill and Tanjong Pagar Areas (Part 1)

The Duxton Hill and Tanjong Pagar areas are conveniently located along Tanjong Pagar Road just next to the famous Chinatown area of Singapore. The nearest MRT sub-way station is Tanjong Pagar station. These places are very beautiful due to their colourful traditional buildings which lined the narrow streets. It is very nice and relaxing to stroll around during daytime, however during night-time, this place is transformed into an area of pubs and nightclubs. If you are to stay around this area, you can consider the Amara Hotel.
