Update: My wife and I visited Jakarta in January 2008 to attend the wedding of our cousin who stayed there. Managed to find sometime to do some shopping and eating during our short stay at Jakarta. New tips and information of this trip have been added.

I went for a workshop in Jakarta from 12-16 Feb 2001, and my Indonesian friends managed to bring us to a few interesting places despite of the tight schedule.

The photograph is of a statue of a farmer taken from the Acacia Hotel which I stayed. Hope you would find the information in this guide useful, and perhaps you can rate them or give your comments. Thanks.

Delicious Indonesian food at Jakarta

One of the best things about Jakarta is the delicious Indonesian food and the price is cheap compared to Singapore. Besides Indonesian food, there are lots of other food outlets especially in the shopping centres. These includes Chinese food (e.g. Crystal Jade, Imperial Palace), Japanese (Sakae Sushi), Western (e.g. pizzas, hamburgers etc). Generally, the cost of food in Jakarta is cheap as compared to Western countries and neighbouring Singapore.

Pros and Cons

Pros:A big city which gives you a good glimpse of urban life in Indonesia
Cons:Crowded, lots of traffic jams
In a nutshell:Big and interesting city with delicious food

Yes, travel with Indonesian friends/ or by Bluebird taxi.
But London is more dangerous than Jakarta.
