Trees and wood

Favorite thing: Schmittenhohe is a mountain which is heavily forested, with skiing trails forming spider-web designs among the forests. When you are at Schmittenhohe, you will see the beautiful forests along the slopes of the mountain, as well as cut wood being stored at the premises of the various restaurants located on this mountain.

Houses & architecture

Favorite thing: During hiking at Schmittenhohe, you will see many houses along the slopes of the mountain. This is actually the extension of the town of Zell am See located at the foot of the mountain. The architecture of the houses are traditional Austrian, made up of wood and concrete. Signages and hiking trails

Favorite thing: The signatures along the various hiking trails (see photo) really helped us a lot, together with a map which you can obtain from your hotel if you decide to come. There are plenty of good hiking trails here, and each is designated with a number on the map. Choose the ones which are within your physical capabilities, and you can take the several cable cars and ski lifts along the way. Hiking at Schmittenhohe is generally a relaxing and nice experience of the Austrian countryside :)

Beautiful wildflowers and Lupins

Favorite thing: One of my wife and my fondest memories about Schmittenhohe are the beautiful and colourful wildflowers we saw during hiking e.g. daisies, lupins etc. The best among them all are the huge purple lupins which we saw while hiking down the mountain along the Areitbahn cablecar path (route 51). This is the first time we have seen lupins and it was a great experience.
