Getting TO/AROUND: Besides the direct route via the AVTO buses (see my transportation tip), another way to go from Venice to Cortina d'Ampezzo is to take the Trenitalia train from Venice to Calalzo Di Cadore (once a day, leaving Venezia St Lucia station at about 7.55am). You will reach Calalzo Di Cadore at about 11am, then proceed to take the Dolomitibus just outside the train station (ask the tourist information counter at the train station) to Cortina d'Ampezzo. The buses leave almost every hour and should cost about $12 euros return (journey takes 1 hour one way). The return train from Calalzo Di Cadore to Venice leaves at about 9pm and reaches Venezia St Lucia station about 11.35pm (so don't miss this train).

Please visit my VT Calalzo Di Cadore page for more information, and you will find these website useful:

Transportation: Venice to Cortina (direct by ATVO buses)

Getting TO/AROUND: If you want to take a direct bus from Venice to Cortina d'Ampezzo, you can try the once daily AVTO buses in the website indicated below. The bus ticket from Venice to Cortina is $10.80 euros one way, and this price will decrease if you take the bus from nearer towns such as Treviso. The timetable, price, days of operation etc are all stated in the website below, do note that this is a rather long journey and the buses do not operate daily, so plan your trip well :)

Getting TO/AROUND: It is possible to drive from the Veneto plains and other parts of Italy to Cortina d'Ampezzo. The scenery of the Dolomite Mountains and various towns in this region are very stunning. However, car rental in Italy is very expensive. If you want to take a taxi from Venice to Cortina d'Ampezzo, it will cost you a lot (about $300 euros one way, which is way too expensive unless you have lots of money to spend). Another possibilty is to join a day group tour from Venice to visit the Dolomite Mountains region. However, the group usually needs a minimum of four people to go on either Tuesdays or Thursdays, and the cost per person is not cheap (about $120 euros per person).

Getting TO/AROUND: Cortina d'Ampezzo is a very easy and safe town to walk around. In fact, this is the best way to appreciate the alpine buildings and expensive resorts which make up this touristy town, as well as the many ranges of Dolomite mountains surrounding the town in a 360 degress panorama. You can visit the 2 websites below for more information.

The Dolomites look awesome. We enjoyed your Cortina page and tips.

Excellent page! Pity about the bad weather! The statue represents Albert I, King of Belgium. He was a lover of mountains and one of the first VIPs who "discovered" Cortina about 100 years ago.
