| Volcano rim of Taal Volcano, Philippines |
Taal Lake and Taal Volcano are one of the major natural attractions in the Philippines and not to be missed when you are there. The good thing is that this attraction is located near to Manila (about 2 hours drive) and there are good accomodation at both Tagaytay and Talisay for you to stay more than one day.
Taal Volcano is located on an island in the Taal Lake, and this volcano is perhaps the smallest in the world. However, it is one of the most active volcanoes in the Philippines and therefore should be treated with respect. Many tourist only see the Taal Volcano from afar high on the rim of Taal Lake where most of the accomodation, restaurants and town of Tagaytay are located. More information on Tagaytay and the attractions on the rim of the Taal Lake are at my VT Tagaytay page.
However for those who are more adventurous, you can actually take a banca (traditional boat) from the lakeside town of Talisay across the Taal Lake to the island in the lake and trek up the Taal Volcano to view the magnificent crater. At this VT Talisay page, I will share with you information and photographs of such a trip which I did in May 2006, which hopefully will be useful to you if you decide to embark on this unique experience. |
| | This photograph is taken at the crater rim of Taal Volcano. I am very happy to have made it to the top with my guide cum driver, Antonio. Breathtaking views from up here, could not have asked for more. |
Here, I am posing in front of the Taal Lake and Taal Volcano island, just before taking a boat trip on board a Banca (traditional boat) to the island to start my walk up to the Taal Volcano crater rim. It was a tiring experience as the weather was very hot, but the views up there was worth all the effort. | | |
