Bintan Island is one of the biggest islands of the Riau Archipelago, and it is also one of the major islands here together with Batam (see my VT Pulau Batam page) and Karimun (see my VT Pulau Karimun Besar page). The reason is because all these 3 islands are very near to Singapore, and many people from Singapore come here especially to stay at the Bintan Beach International Resort area on the north of the island.

In fact, it is very interesting because the small northern portion of the island is fully of luxurious beach resorts catered mainly to tourists from Singapore and afar, while the rest of the island is of contrasting rural lifestyle.

My stay at Bintan Island was rather short (only a few hours) mainly to catch the speed boat to the remote Lingga Islands about 4 hours boat ride south of Bintan (see my VT Pulau Lingga and Pulau Singkep pages). However, I will give you some insight into Bintan which hopefully will be useful to you.
