Pulau Singkep (Singkep Island) is one of the main islands of the Lingga Archipelago (please see my VT Pulau Lingga page), and it is the southern-most of the Lingga Islands. The main town on this island is called Dabo and I spent 3 days here during March 2007.
Pulau Singkep, being far away from modernisation, is a relaxing, friendly and laid back island with very friendly locals. The island has some good natural attractions such as beaches, traditional architecture, roads which are good for cycling etc.
Let me share with you the information and photos of my trip to this remote and yet beautiful island, which hopefully will be useful to you. |
| | This photos was taken from the ferry jetty at Dabo town (main town of Singkep island). It shows the town during sunset, with the hills of the island at the background. |
Dabo is a small town which is easy to move around. The people are friendly but there may be communication problem as they do not speak English. They speak Malay and the Chinese there can also speak Chinese as well as dialets such as Hokkien. This photo is taken at the market place of the town, the main form of transport are motorcycles and bicycles (very few cars on the road). | | |

jowlyyao Thu Apr 2, 2009 09:48 UTC Singkep was the 2nd busiest island in Riau Islands after Bintan before the Dutch mining company terminated its contract in about 1983. The beautiful environments on the island and the other major islands (Lingga and Senayang) have so far remained intact. | meiyergani Tue Aug 12, 2008 00:25 UTC Batu berdaun is a wellknown Tale story for children, tell about a mother who spread her milk on the leaf for her daughter before the mother swallowed by a big stone | SLLiew Thu Sep 6, 2007 05:10 UTC Another less travelled place.
