Where I was born

by antz - last update: Aug 28, 2007

Kilchrenan is the village where I was born. It will always hold a special place in my heart. It is where my parents live. It is where I spent 18 years of my life. It is the most beautiful place in the world.

The area is of course dominated by Loch Awe, Scotland’s longest and one of its most beautiful fresh-water lochs. Kilchrenan sits on the banks of Loch Awe. There are also several other lochs, such as Lochs Nant, Tromlee, Spectacle Lochs and other smaller lochans that can be reached on foot from Kilchrenan. The Lochs are all surrounded by beautiful hills, some part wooded and some handsomely craggy. To the North and outwith the community lies the mighty Ben Cruachan, one of Scotland’s highest Monros rising impressively to approximately 3700 ft.

Your village looks wonderful, would love to visit it and Oban. Have you heard of any cheaper accommodations, like B&Bs?

Is your village hall like the ones I knew when growing up- stags heads on the walls, and jumble sales? And the odd social aka as cattle market!

To be honest, you guys up there have a much more scenic ditch than us down here... it's quite appealing to fall into ;-) Greetings from the German lowlands!

Karen, your love of Kilchrenan is contagious! It sounds like a very lovely place. I have only had short ventures into Scotland - Glasgow, Edinburgh and Loch Goil (oh and Gretna Green!). I want to come back.
