Ken Diamond Memorial Park - Glovertown

Ken Diamond Memorial Park

Ken Diamond Memorial Park

This little park is right in Glovertown. There is a 3.6km (2 mile) hike through a variety of terrain - boreal forest, bog, swamp, etc. On the side of a hill we found limitless supply of blueberries.

This particular park was donated to the town by a businessman who spent long hours working at improving the land. He did a great job of providing this bit of wilderness where you could go for some quiet reflection.

Marine Interpretation Centre - Glovertown

Marine Interpretation Centre

Terra Nova National Park

Terra Nova is a big park, but not as interesting as Newfoundland's other national park (Gros Morne). After reading about the park, we decided only to visit the Marine Interpretation Centre.

The most interesting aspect of this centre was the touch and feel tank - a salt water tank with local sealife that you can handle. There are clams, star fish, scallops, crabs, etc. in a tank of really cold saltwater. The centre was quite cool - worth a couple of hours to visit.

The picture we took of the Centre was from the dock behind it. In the water by the dock we found many jelly fish. I'm not sure if they were in season or are always there. I need a better camera to successfully take a picture of a jelly fish in the water.

As with most national parks, there are many hikes of various difficulties available. Unfortunately, we decided that we didn't have time this trip.

One day price per adult in 2004 was $4.50 Cdn. One disadvantage of travelling in September is that the Interpretive centre closed at 5pm (whereas it is open until 9pm during high season).

Directions: Eastern Newfoundland on the Trans-Canada Highway - 240km west of St. John's (near Glovertown).
