A few days in Atlanta

by Redlats - last update: Feb 18, 2004

In early 2004, I had a business trip in Atlanta. After the work was done, I got to take in some of Atlanta's activities - a NHL game between Toronto and the Atlanta Thrashers, the Coca Cola Museum, the CNN tour, Grant Park, etc. My time was limited, so I considered some other activities - for instance Stone Mountain and the History Museum, but I could not devote sufficent time to either of them, so I did not try.

I apologize to Atlantanians (what does one call someone-from-Atlanta anyway?), but after my 5 days I do not believe Atlanta is a top tourist draw. There are interesting Civil war history sites, but beyond that, there is not a lot of reason to visit Atlanta.

Something visitors should be aware of. Peachtree Street is a main road though downtown Atlanta. However, there are more than 100 other streets with the name Peachtree in the name (for example: Peachtree Heights, West Peachtree Street, Peachtree Hills Ave. etc. etc.), so you may get lost.

If I did not live in Baltimore I would chose Atlanta to live. Love this city. If you get back again check out The Carter Center, Stone Mountain, Piedmont Park.

Sad but true, lats. Underground is indeed cheesy and the World of CC self serving. Next time check out the MLK Center, Botanical gardens and the High Museum.
