"A week in Palm Springs" Palm Springs by Redlats

We have a relative who has a house in Palm Springs. Not far from the airport.

Did you know that Palm Springs only has 42,000 people? Who knew? But we were told that the whole valley has 300,000 people. Typical of many American cities, the metro area consists of a number of cities besides Palm Springs. For instance we shopped in Cathedral City. Had to drive to Desert Palms to find a picture framing place.

There are a lot of palm trees in Palm Springs. They say a lot of springs as well, but we didn't see any.

One of the advantages of PS is the weather. If you like it hot and dry, PS is the place for you. Even on days where it looked like the weather was going to turn for the worse (i.e. liked it would rain), by 11am, the sun had burned up all the moisture in the sky, and it was back to a hot afternoon. A disadvantage of PS -- it is in the middle of the Coachella Valley. Also, it is two hours from Los Angeles. PS sees a lot of LA smog. In 10 days, we never had a perfectly clear view of Mt. San Jacinto. Always some smog.

Another interesting thing about PS. You don't see people sitting in their front yards. Everybody is in the back swimming in their pools. We didn't meet many neighbours.

Supposedly there are a bunch of gays and lesbians in Palm Springs. I didn't notice them. Mind you I don't notice such stuff. Unless they have neon flashing signs over their heads broadcasting their affiliations, I wouldn't notice it.
