The Sonoran Desert | Tucson lies between some mountain ranges |
Tuscon is an interesting place. It's a hot desert -- to a Canadian, it is so weird that nobody has grass lawns. Yet the city is growing. Real estate values are increasing as people move in and join the 3/4 million people who live there.
Tucson is two hours south of Phoenix, and has many recommended places to visit. From desert vistas (360? sunny days a year) to native culture to modern electronics, the air force base and the University of Arizona. We spent the first four days of our Arizona vacation in Tucson and could have spent longer there.
We are from the north and this was our first foray into a desert, so we had a lot to learn. We enjoyed our visits to the Saquaro National Parks, the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum and Tucson Mountain Park to learn about the Sonaron desert, its plants and animals. |
| A bell at San Xavier del Bac Mission |
We also visited the San Xavier Del Bac Mission and the Arizona State museum to learn more about the native cultures (and the Spanish/Mexican influences) from centuries ago |
