Fagagna : my mother's hometown

by GUYON - last update: Jul 20, 2005

A village

Castello di Fagagna
During our stay in Lignano Sabbiadoro, we visited Fagagna, a village North West of Udine, province capital.

It is my mother's home town. She left to move to France with her family in 1928 because there was no work in the area. The Friulans are known to be hardworkers, especially in construction. My grand father was a very strong man able to dig the soil in a time the mecchanical diggers did not be invented.

My mother went back in 1967, 39 years after she left. When she went out the car, she was immediatly recognized by a school mate.

Now, there are several enterprises in the village to bring work to the inhabitants and even to some emigrants.

But it is not a true touristic town.

My dad is from that town also. I believe he left in the late 1950s for the US.
