"A city devoted to holidays" a Lignano Sabbiadoro Travel Page by GUYON

Lignano was initially a fishmen village but the quality of its sand and the huge length of its beaches transformed it quickly into a "vacation city".
It looks like a long knife driven in the Adriatica See. The blade is the beaches and a yachts harbor and a pine forest stay in the back.
Ernest Hemingway, who is a specialist in the matter of seaside (see my page about Key West) had discovered Lignano and stayed there.
I went there in 1967, 1971, 1978, 1993, 2003, 2005, 2007, 2008 and July 2009. I have searched, in Italy, a city like Lignano : I mean a large city mixing beach, quietness, lot of shops, entertainements for a reasonnable cost to stay. I never found an other one.
The neighbor cities of Bibione and Grado do not provide such a level of "vacation atmosphere" but they bring a competition which pulls the prices down.

More, Lignano enjoys a nice climate. If it rains it does not last too much and quickly, the sun appears to dry the wet clothes.

The above photograph must be a good shot (taken by me in June 2003, just after a rain fall) because I found it on a website of the city of Lignano. I hope Virtual tourist sold it at a fair price.

Lignano sleeps between 1 and 4 PM but at night, it is completely awake up. People roam the streets until 1 or 2 AM, stopping only for a drink or a "gelato" (nostra produzione or produzione artigianale).
