Great plan for anyone to follow planning any trip. I agree with you about travel agents vs doing your own planning via internet. Part of the joy is research and anticipation. Glad you enjoyed the US. I plan to see your lovely city again this fall.
Great advice for the wild frenchie lost in big America!! My exp: the most spectacular stuff is in the country side (Grand Canyon...) but the only decent (and excellent!) food and drink is in big cities. Tough... Miss that little bistro in the village...
