Don't be paranoiac : Paris is not a dangerous town. But you must be careful to avoid to be robbed. The tourists are gathered in the same areas and it is easy to attack them or to steal in their pockets. Avoid by night : Forum des Halles (a mall), Bastille, Strasbourg St Denis, any deserted areas. For Japanese : avenue de l'Opera (the thiefs know you go there to shop). Metro : the main touched lines are 1, 2 , 4. The pickpockets are either good looking men reading a newspaper (in order to hide their hand) or a small group of kids (Romanian, Jugoslavian) with a plastic sack. You are targeted when you are waiting for the train and you are robbed when you come into or out the train if it is crowdy. But don't worry : there are 50 pickpockets in the Metro and also 500 policemen.

Place du Tertre on Montmartre Hill : if the man who stands beside you is not a tourist or does not look like a waiter or an artist : he is a pickpocket or... he is ME. Hold your purse fermely, I am not often there. The picture was shot in December and it is not the high season.
