Nightlife Spot: Moulin Rouge
Very famous through out the world. Topic of several films. A Parisian does not go to Moulin Rouge, which is focused on tourists, excepted if he goes with a guest or if he is invited. I was invited by my boss, so I was unable to escape. The spectacle is mainly dance and song on the traditional Paris for tourists with beautiful topless girls. Only one original act : a ventriloquist who makes speaking French the Japanese tourists who come on the stage. No French Cancan : the only thing which would be interesting there. Rather expensive (125 €, 140 €, 155 € with dinner, 79 & 89 € without dinner) 2 shows : one at 7:30Pm, the second at 11:00PM. The dinner is poor with a quick service.

Dress Code: No dress code here. Only the history of the cabaret. It exists since 1860. Its first name was the "Cabaret des Assassins" because of a painting showing a murder of a serial killer : Troppman. In 1880, it was named "Le lapin Agile" (The Agile Rabbit) as a joke because the painter, Gill, made a picture on the wall with a rabbit leaping from a saucepan and it was said : it is "le lapin à Gill" (Gill's rabbit). A copy of the painting is still in exibit. Roland Dorgeles and his friends set up here a huge trick. They tied a brush to the tail of a donkey which realized some modern paintings (especially, A Sunset on the Adriatic) and they sold them as made by a new painter : BORONALI (the anagram of Aliboron, the name of the donkey). The specialized critics found the work "very interesting". Here, Picasso paid a lunch with the "Arlequin". You would pay less.

Metamorphosis: Magic spectacle

Nightlife Spot: Metamorphosis
A spectacle of magic with a diner. The performance is on a boat on the Seine. 50 euros tax include (37 euros in August). You must arrived around 7:30 / 8:00 PM to dinner on the boat (under a glass roof) with view on Notre Dame (when the boat is quai de Montebello). The food is average but include a wine pitcher. All the boat cruises pass there and you can choose your next attraction : a cruise on River Seine, according to the speed of the boats. The performance begins at 9:30PM in a AC hall in the hold. A magician and his 3 assistants present their act during 1:30. Simple and pleasant but not a very high level. In French but the magician translates some words in English. A good performance if you have kids. You are not obliged to dinner but we notice the first ranks is given to the spectators who have the dinner...

Nightlife Spot: St Germain des Prés
Each year, the 21st June, for the shortest night of the year, Paris lives in music. Each district organizes several free musical spectacles. Every style is represented : modern, rock, religious, classical, musette, etc... This femal singer sings modern songs about religion.

Chez Michou (1): A gay place

Nightlife Spot: Chez Michou (1)
At the entrance, the greeting is made by Michou : always dressed with a clear blue blazer, glasses large as a wind screen. You cannot miss him : he repeats "merci" (thanks to make me so rich because his club is full every night since 1956). To be there you must reserve at least 2 WEEKS before and for the week end 2 months. But it is a real show of the Parisian life (I mean not as the Moulin Rouge which is a real tourist trap). The price : 95 euros for the dinner and the show. If you are too late to reserve, take a ticket through an agency for only 152 euros (!!!!) I have been surprised by the size of the room : 70 square meters with enough place to put 100 people. Smaller, it is a phone booth. Take care : there is a table in front of the entrance from which you cannot see the stage and you attend the show at the TV (in this case, the best way is to buy the DVD). Dress Code: I was invited by my former admin who had just come into an inheritance (I told that to my current one to motivate her). The dress code is casual but some people have the tie (me for example) but take into consideration : - you will be packed together the other people - you will not dance (no place enough). The French people who are there have generally something to celebrate (often a birthday) and want to have real good time.

Nightlife Spot: Chez Michou (2)
Chez Michou is the Mecca of transformism. The singers are all men but imitate feman singers or artists (Brigitte Bardot, Chere, Dalida certainly the best copycat, Milene Farmer, etc...). The show begins around 10 PM by a young singer a bit agitated who seems blocked by the tiny stage. The the real performance begins just after with the Michette, such as the gay singers who are all overwhelming. The music is recorded : no place to put a musician. The show is over at 1AM. No sex, no vulgarity.

Le Caveau de la Republique: Chansonniers

Nightlife Spot: Le Caveau de la Republique
It remains only two Chansonniers in Paris and Le caveau de la Republique is one of them. In Paris, a "chansonnier" is not the same type of entertainment than in Quebec. The goal of the spectacle is to laugh at the politicians and at the VIP. The performers sing, tell stories or poems. To attend such a performance, you must understand French and local policy (this condition is almost impossible to perform even for a Frenchman). Close on July and August 27 to 34 euros
