Albania shares border with Montenegro and Kosovo in the North and the Northeast, with Macedonia in the East and Greece in the South and Southwest. The Adriatic and Ioanian Seas traverse the West of the country, creating a coastline of 270 km. The Strait of Otranto in the Southern Adriatic separate Italy from Albania (The nearest point is approximately 50km)
Albania is mainly a mountainous country. Two thirds of its territory is made up of hills and mountains whereas the plains with an altitude up to 300m are situated mainly in the Western part of the country. The Southern coast (Vlora-Saranda) is also characterised by its steep slopes. The highest mountain is Korabi 2751m, in the Northeast of the country.
The lake of Shkodra in the North (368 km2) is the biggest by the size in the Balkans, while Lake Ohrid (362 km2) in the Southeast of Albania is the deepest in the Balkans. There are also Lake Prespa which punctuates borders with the Former Yougoslav Republic of Macedonia and Greece in the east and some small alpine lakes in the North and Northeast.
The main rivers are Drini, Mati, Ishmi, Erzeni, Shkumbini, Semani, Vjosa. There are 152 rivers and tributaries; 5 reservoirs; 200 natural springs - drinking, mineral, hydropathis- in Albania. The average flow of water is 42 billion m3 per annum.

The average age of population 26 years; 40% of the population is under 16 years of age; the average longevity is 72.2 years (69.3 for men and 75.4 for women).
Religion: Albanians share the Muslim, Orthodox and Catholic religions
The main cities of the country are: Tirana (capital); Durres, Shkoder, Elbasan, Vlora, Korca, Fier.
