On the road to Hattussas

by Tamani - last update: Aug 10, 2001

I realise I am not giving Ankara enough credit, but actually, we only visited the Museum of Anatolian Civilizations and briefly Ataturks Tomb, before heading off to the ruins of the ancient city of Hattussas (Hattuþaþ) and Yasilikaya.

Hattusas was the capital of the Hittite empire that was the main power in the Middle East around 1500 BC (!)Around 1200 BC the Anatolian civ. were destroyed by "Sea People" and Hattussas was destroyed.
Even if there is not much left of this once so powerful city, the idea made my imagination run wild!
The website of Asiaminor gives an interesting overview of the long and important history of Anatolia.
