Cambodia Crown tourist Jewel

An Ancient Capitol

Angkor Wat
Cambodia's crown Jewel of tourist sites is the Angkor Wat just a few Kilometers outside of Siam Reap Town. A visit to Cambodia without seeing the Angkor temples is like going to China and not seeing the Great Wall.

The Angkor period was from 802AD-1432AD When the Khmer empire was at its height. At its height it extended from Vietnam to Thailand.
King Jayavarman VII was the king during the period of 1181-1219 when most of the temples were built. Little did he know he was building something that would help his country bring in dollars and tourists 900 years later. In 1353 the Thai's Sacked the city of Angkor, and they continued to press the Khmer Empire and it gradualy fell apart like all empires do. Also contributing to the fall of Angkor was the influence of Theravada Buddisim that undermined the Hindu foundation. Angkor was abandonded, and the capitol moved to Phnom Penh.

The Angkor complex is huge covering many miles. The main sites are the Angkor Wat, The Bayon, Angkor Thom. The Rylos group is also nearby.

Here are some of my pictures and tips for seeing this amazing place.

That's pretty funny- $20 to get in the park and only $13 for a nice guesthouse! Great page!
