Man! I didn't realize how wild and exciting Hamburg could be since I live in the larger, neighboring Berlin. I mean, Hamburg is the second largest city in German after all, and it does have the craziest red light district in Europe (the Reeperbahn! imagine screaming pushy German prostitutes yanking men off the street). I was pleasantly surprised that Hamburg was Hamburg and not a smaller Berlin. All the water and wild port action gives the city a unique and youthful spirit.
i found the wealthy areas of the city more close-minded and soulless.go figure!
If you are into German film, check out the film "Gegen die Wand" or "Head on" (the English title). it's a really wonderful portrayal of a Turkish family and love and the wild underground Hamburg scene. |
