I was only in Cologne for a day, so all my impressions of the city are completely clouded by the fight I had there with a friend (I made up afterward, and it's all OK now, if you're curious!). I think it's a very nice place to visit, live, have children, love, and die in, but for me, Cologne will be forever associated with that horrible day, so when I think of Cologne, I think of crying alone on one of its many gorgeous bridges, as well as the abnormally cold and cloudy weather that summer, and the dark, gray clouded skies surroundings its Dom. I think of loneliness and expensive tourist bars that closed at 8pm (ok, I'm exaggerating), big mobs of American tourists, and the well meaning but intrusive Korean girls talking to me in sign language at my youth hostel when I most wanted to be by myself. I really need to go back and visit Cologne someday to get over these issues, but for now I name it--Koeln, city at the point of no return! Abandon all hope ye who enter! etc. |
