I think I'm finally ready to return! What an intense emotional and mental workout it will be. Filipino culture is one of the most exciting and interesting in the world because it has always been a mix of many different influences. That's what defines real culture to me.

memories: the hot tropical smells of dirt and warm greasy food stewing away in relatives' pots; flip-flop sandals; wild packs of out of control children; dusty dirt roads; tough cookies in acid wash chain smoking; walls that always felt moist no matter if it was raingin or not; plastic gothic tortured crucifixes nailed to walls and glowing from battery power; square jawed women with violently red lipstick and huge fluffy lace dresses; block after block of communist style cement skyscrapers; massage parlors and gogo bars; tough sweaty men with moustaches; the national anthem playing every evening after the last television show has aired; lavish air conditioned shopping malls owned by heavyweight boxers; it's always the most life-threatening (and fun) to ride in the very back corner of a jeepney
