most people visiting Berlin are sure to take a quick day trip to this elegant and refined city of the kings. Prussian royalty built their estates in potsdam and the surrounding area and ruled from here instead of Berlin, really.

Today aside from a lot of socialist eyesores (that are kind of cool in and of themselves if you are into that sort of thing) it has been renovated and rebuilt so that it shines and sparkles, and is a nice contrast to dirty berlin.

of course you can't miss the castles, but try to check out smaller castles like schloss glienecke, which are also charming.
