Brandenburg is the Land (State/province) that surrounds Berlin, and there has always been a little friction between the two. I think a few years ago right after the Wende, they were talking about consolidating the two Länder into one, but people in Brandenburg freaked out because they felt they would be dominated by Berlin too much. They like their independence.

In Berlin there are always a lot of Brandenburg kids coming in for the weekend to go clubbing, and lots of people commute from Berlin to Brandenburg to study/work or play or get high (just kidding).

As I live in Berlin, we take a lot of weekend excursions into Brandenburg to take in the pretty countryside and to run around the castles, especially in Potsdam. I wonder if they make fun of us wacky city people in our weird clothes.
