I was surprised at how modern Paris felt. Half the time I felt like I was moving through a seventies version of the future, especially in the subways and at the charles de gaulle airport. Paris is like the movie Barbarella, and i could just imagine Jane Fonda in a white miniskirt and white go go boots prancing around here.
There is also a very raw and chaotic energy to the city which I love, and there are so many different kinds of people in Paris. It is really exciting to be exposed to the face of the new (and more real) France.
That being said, be prepared to wade through a multitude of annoying tourists. I really couldn't enjoy many of the major sights because there were so many tourists there, and they stressed me out.
------------------------------------------------------- Nightlife: because of sucky liquor license laws, out of control yuppieism, events open after 2am cost a lot (10 EUR - 15 EUR) and the interesting, smaller events end at around 2am. Despite, or perhaps because of this, people seemed very enthusiastic about their events. |

| Pros: | "lively people, interesting suburbs, yummy food" | | Cons: | "expensive, the most touristy place i've ever been (and i've been everywhere)" | | In A Nutshell: | "try to ignore all the tourists and tacky tourist shops and accept paris for what it is today" |

Now I can also comment on the cheap condoms (useful TIP?) so as not to embarass you on the VT home page newest comments section which only shows the first ten words. | Alphons Mon Jul 22, 2002 15:50 UTC very nice page | littlesam1 Wed Jul 17, 2002 14:01 UTC Great page. I love the Barbarella comparison. |
