Quan An Ngon: "Delicious Restaurant"

  • Restaurant Name: Quan An Ngon

The name translates as "Delicious Restaurant" in English. It certainly lives up to it's name too. Since I live in Vietnam, I occasionally get tired of eating the local food. However, I never tire of eating here. They have indoor or outdoor eating areas. It's nicely decorated in colorful paint and beautiful foliage. The cooking area is open to diners so you can see how they prepare Vietnam's traditional food. Ngon is popular with locals and expats alike. It's always busy so you may have to wait for a table.

Favorite Dish: My personal favorite is the Ngon Special Salad. It contains banana leaf, shrimp, peanuts and many other 'delicious' ingredients.

Highland Coffee: People-watching along Dong Khoi
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • Restaurant Name: Highland Coffee

The food is only so-so. What makes this place special is the atmosphere. Find a table outside on the sidewalk. This way you can watch the traffic along Dong Khoi and you'll have a terrific view of the Notredame Cathedral. It's nicest just an hour or two before sunset. It's reminiscent of the outdoor cafe's depicted in "The Quiet American," a movie based on the novel by Graham Greene.

Java Coffee Bar: Cup o' Jo Vietnam Style
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • Restaurant Name: Java Coffee Bar

If you like coffee, Java is a comfortable place to enjoy it. You'll also have a choice of a dozen or so deliciously flavored smoothies. If you're hungry, check out the menu. I haven't been disappointed yet!

Favorite Dish: Living so far from home (Los Angeles), I really miss western food. I often come to Java to get my fix. The cheesecake especially satisfies my sweet-tooth. =P
It's not the cheapest place if you're on a tight budget,. A typical meal will cost you about 75,000 dong ($5 US).

Favorite Dish: Cafe Latin is a Tapas Bar, so most dishes are appetizer size. It's a nice place for a few drinks and some good food.
