While it can get a little hot and sticky, there's a lot to see and do in Bangkok - great shopping, and plenty of culture. Although there are a few potential pitfalls for the unwary, avoid them and you'll have a great time. Incidentally, Bangkok is the "English" name for this city - the Thai name is Krung Thep - or "City of Angels". That's the short form of the name - I found a great page describing the full name and what it means at www.into-asia.com. Another website that I'd recommend is the excellent Thailand Guidebook. Written by a local, and definitely a good read. If you're interested in keeping track of the rapid pace of city development that's going on in Bangkok then the great 2bangkok.com site is somewhere you should visit, too. Frequently updated, and it also has plenty of stories you may not see elsewhere. There were lots of construction and renovation projects ongoing in Bangkok in 2005 - so it looks like 2006 is going to be a year of grand openings... |
