Founded in 1350, Ayutthaya became the second capital of Thailand, after Sukhothai. For many centuries it remained the center of Thailand's thriving culture and commerce. All this came to an end in 1767, when Ayutthaya was attacked and captured by the Burmese. Today Ayutthaya is home to one of Thailand's most fascinating and popular cultural attractions, an elaborate historical park encompassing the remains of the ancient city. |
