Our first, but definately not last!, vacation in the Provence.
Gertjan (a friend and also a VT member), my husband and I, went to France by car for a twelve day vacation. We drove through the east part of France to the Provence.
This must have been the most relaxing vacation that we've ever had, even thought we were busy all the time. We saw and did a lot, but at a provencale pace. :-)
Who could not like Provence! There's so much to see: culture, lively towns, picturesque villages,... And there's so much to do: hiking, canoeing, mountain climbing and many other sports (we just kept to walking and an occasional dip in the water).
And the nature!! You see vast fields of lavender and sunflowers, olive trees, fruit orchards and vineyards everywhere. (We were a bit late in the season to see the lavender and sunflowers at their best, but the leaves of the grapevines were changing colour and that was a beauriful sight too.)
Even the smells of Provence are unforgettable, not only the lavender, but also mint, rosemary and thyme. With all these ingredients around, you can imagine how wonderful the Provencale cuisine must be.
Great salads, a choice of fish or meat (we especially enjoyed lamb), fresh fruits and vegetables, a wonderful variety of cheeses and desserts and to top it all of, a great selection of wines (as you would expect in France.) I must say that we all gained some weight! :-{
We had some doubts about how the weather would be in oktober, but even that was perfect, between 20 and 25°C, and it rained only during one night and half a day.
