I spent ten days in LA in June, '99 visiting friends from online an generally having a ball.

My favourite was a return to Knotts Berry Farm after seeing it as a 12 yo in 1978, and probably Catalina Island.

I stayed in a Howard Johnsons in the Valley, which was clean and well priced accomodation if you are not a millionaire but also dont feel like back packing it, and close to transport and so on.

Ive been all over USA and Canada on a 6 months trip with my parents in 1978 so I may have been through your neck of the woods!
