i've been living in dublin eleven years and it's changed a lot in that time. the city has moved from being a sleeply backwater that people passed through on the way to see green fields elsewhere in ireland to a supposed cultural capital of europe. ireland has a tiger economy which means there's loads of money wizzing around which has had some good and bad effects here.
whenever i think about what makes dublin a good place to spend time in, it always comes back to the people and that ireland is an easy place to have a good time in.
one of the reasons i started checking out virtual tourist was to see what other people had to say about my home place and i instantly came across some things i had begun to take for granted (cheers for the tips oja!).
the one thing to remember about dublin is that no matter how hard you try it's very hard to do anything in this town that doesn't involve a visit to the pub at some stage - that's how we're built. gradually coffee shops are becoming far more popular here and people have kind of stopped looking at you like a weirdo if you don't want to drink every night.
my advice on the whole pub thing is to embrace it - even if you don't drink because a trip to a pub could lead you anywhere!
dublin is full of great people with great stories and great vibes about them. i think we're a nation of good talkers who actually enjoy nothing more. we all have very finely tuned *** detectors and i always find that head-on is not the best way to approach most people you find here - subtle approaches can often be the best.
this picture features aileen and sinead, who come from an amazing place in ireland - tralee, co. kerry (probably the best place to live in ireland - i'll do a page soon!). they like dancing, so they did that night back in february. anya took the picture and that geezer in the background is ray.
