go see the fabulous olympic stadiums, the pavilion, the jean miro museum and this crazy tower on montjuic hill. (i think it's montjuic). the pavillion is the greatest bit - wish i could find those photos. built for a world expo it's a model home of the future - its all glass and water - there's no toilet though but hey it's futuristic. that's in the middle of this mad conferency sporty part of town. right by the basketball arena we cam across this amazing tower - even the telecommunications facilities in barcelona look stunning!

Directions: up on that hill i think is called montjuic - you get one of those overhead cable cars up from the port - be careful if you're scared of heights though!

there's so to do in barcelona, just hang out and enjoy or you'll kill yourself! you can't help but be blown away by the whole gaudi thing and architecture in general - there are beautiful buildings and landscapes everywhere. all you have to do is live to suck it in. the locals in barcelona haven't yet gotten around to all there is to see there - gaudi's buildings, parc guell, the beach, gracia neighbourhood. just get there and you won't have to look for anything, barcelona just rolls out in front of you!

there are loads of really good times to visit barcelona and easter is one of them. the weather is mild and the city is relatively quiet aside from the big weekend itself. now ireland is a pretty catholic place and we have our fair share of zealots but the good friday parade in barcelona scared the wits out of me - loads of people walking around in black cloaks with their ankles chained so they could atone for their sins. what a sight.

Directions: the streets of central barcelona - the parade starts and ends around las ramblas - you can't miss it, the whole city suits down!

between christmas and little christmas (or three kings), dec 26th- january 6th in barcelona they really go for this two christmases thing! january 6th is just as big a celebration as december 25th. on january 5th all of the shops are jammed with people doing some last minute shopping - each city area has a children's parade with the three kings which is a real feelgood affair. it's worth mentioning that new year's in barcelona is a hard night to beat. these people go out until 9am most weekends so they are well party fit for a little old NYE. it starts at midnight with eating grapes on the strokes of the bells and ends well ... sometime later.
