Toronto was created on March 6, 1834 on the north shore of Lake Ontario. The original British settlement, York, was founded by Lieutenant Governor John Graves Simcoe in the 1790's. By the 1830's it had grown to 10,000 people.

Yonge Street, the longest street in the World, is the main north-south road and divides the city in half.

The CN Tower, pictured here, is the world's tallest free standing structure, measuring 553 meters is height. You can walk across a glass floor on the 113th floor, or you can go to the Sky Pod at the top (146th floor.) The 360 Restaurant revolves offering different views of the city.

The average temperature in July is 72 degrees F and in January 23 degrees F.

Toronto is one of the world's most ethnically diverse cities. it has more than 80 ethnic communities with people from Africa, Asia and Europe. <BR>

The population of Toronto is over 4.9 million. By the year 2003, more than 50% of Toronto's population will be foreign born. There are over 100 languages spoken in the city.

Pictured here is the City Hall, the result of a world-wide archtectural competition. The building, designed by Viljo Revell of Helsinki, Finland, opened on September 13, 1965.
