Seaport in the Crimea

The wide beaches and mild weather make Yalta a popular resort on the Black Sea. It is located in the center of the 44 mile long Crimean Southern Coast.

In the 12th century it was called Dzhalita under the Polovitsians. In the 14th century it was Healita under the Genoese.. In 1783 Crimea finally came under Russian control.

Tolstoy, Chekhov, Rahmaninov, and Shalyapin spent time there.

Yalta has anexceptional climate with 2200 hours of sunshine a year.

The photo shows Yalta as we came into the harbor.

I was here last time in 1985 & even in Communiste times Yalta had a special beauty, and many more people smiling in public than in the rest of CCCP.
